Sleeping is Healthy
This title makes me remember the poem I wrote about sleeping, lol.
Yeah, I have written a poem about sleeping, that is to say I love to sleep, and the act of doing it—sleeping?—I love it too. Especially in the car, where the AC is just blowing and everywhere is just chilling. Yunno, like water in the chiller, yeah, just like that. And I would travel to various places till we reached our destination.
‘Teni, if you continue to sleep like this, one day the bus will drive past your juncture, and you won’t know’; my mom will always say
‘That can never happen’, I would say.
Hmmm, all were roses until I started entering the yellow bus, Danfo! So as usual, I sat in the left seat on the second-to-last row. The spirit of the breeze came with sleep as it swept me away to a faraway land. I got to Lebanon when I was asked to bring out my transport fare. I did that and went back to sleep. That isn’t stopping me, innit?
' Oya o!' Those two words brought me to life in no time. I woke up and started looking everywhere as people started alighting from the bus.
'Jesus!, I have passed my bus stop '. God! I couldn’t cry. Me wey no sabi road.
I came down from the bus, and I was moving from one place to another. I couldn’t call my mom because she didn’t want me to go to that side before. Now that I have gone alone, I can’t say I have lost my way. Never!
I started asking for directions, as I should have since
'I don’t know the area; I am new here'
'Oh, you have passed there, but I don’t know the way back'
Imagine, I couldn’t cry.
'You have to take a bus going to Yaba; from there, ask for directions.'
'Okay, you have to take the bus to Obalende, then...'
These were the answers I got from asking people for directions. Isn’t it the same place I mentioned for them? It was from here that I knew that I had entered.
Mo wo gbawú
Then, what more to add more fuel? My mom called me. I didn’t pick at first, then she called again.
'You should have gotten there, abi, sho ti gba aso yen?, oya give the phone to Aunty Kemi'
Ghengheww😭
' Ermm, Mummy, she quickly stepped out. What do you want me to tell her?'
That was how I escaped what I didn’t know could have happened.
Lucky for me, I asked a few others, and this time they gave the same direction, meaning they were right. I had to withdraw money from the POS because I was already short of cash. Imagine, now I have to use my money.
*Weeping*😭😭
I got to the place, did what I was meant to do, and boarded a bus home. This time they no born me well to close my eyes. As the sleep dey come, naso I dey jerk am. During this period, my mom has been calling me
' Nibo lo wa?'
'Mummy, I am calling; there is traffic.'
Even if, luckily for me, the road wasn’t that busy, I just had to lie till I got to her house.
Ah!, never would I sleep in a bus again.
The way God blessed me with this sleep gift ehn, I can’t explain. I thought that would be the last time sleep would shame me; that was a lie.
This day at work, oh, at work! Someone was meant to teach me something so I could work on what was given to me. It started well o (aswear writing this, I just dey laugh). I was concerntrating o, until the sleep just came. I start to dey doze. The evil ones have followed me here again.
Ta ni mo shey?. I was shaking my legs; probably that would remove the sleep.
Nibo?
I continued to doze, and the lady kept on asking, 'Shey, you understand?' What do you expect my answer to be? 'Yes, of course’. I still continued to shake my legs because I couldn’t stand up. I decided to take my phone so I could get distracted from sleep.
You won’t believe it. As I took out my phone to reply to my messages, I started dozing again. I’m not capping at all, oh!. I will write one message, delete it, write another one again, and delete it because I was writing rubbish. I just closed the app. I moved to the game app, and that was how my eyes closed, and it remained just small, or else my phone would have fallen on the floor. Thank God, I opened my eyes and used my hands to hold my phone.
Where would I have gotten another phone, Egbami?
The lady and her seat partner looked at me.
' Have you been sleeping?'
No, no, no oh
Ohh.. okay
That is how I would receive query about sleeping on duty. That would be a shame.
See how sleep is doing me? *weeps*😭😭
But that one no mean say I no go sleep o, if sleep comes for work or a bus, I will still do what? I will still sleep. It shows that I am a living being, right?
Thanks for reading my sleeping story; see you in the next story!
